Veeam Cozies up to AWS with Cloud Backup Buy
Veeam Software this week announced its plan to acquire N2WS, an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) data protection provider with close ties to Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The all-cash purchase, valued at $42.5million, is Veeam’s first in nearly a decade. It follows a record year in 2017.
N2WS, a cloud-native backup solution, is now available for AWS workloads. According to the announcement, this “strengthens Veeam’s position as a leading provider for Availability for any app and any data across any cloud and its ability to protect AWS infrastructures.”
Gartner Inc. projects that the IaaS market will grow to $88 billion by 2022. Enterprises are increasingly turning to AWS and the public cloud to run more applications as IaaS continues to grow at a rapid pace. They are looking for better data protection in order to comply with regulations and minimize downtime.
Phil Goodwin, IDC Research Director, stated that “IDC research indicates that the majority of new applications will be hosted in cloud computing and that cloud-related data security is the fastest-growing segment in this market.” Veeam is now in the thicket of this rapidly expanding market segment with the acquisition of N2WS. Customers will also have one place to manage their cloud and on-premise data protection policies and activities when Veeam is integrated with them.
N2WS will retain its brand and operate as an independent company. However, the solution providers will share their technology and research and development. N2WS will also have access to Veeam’s partners and alliances. Existing Veeam customers will receive offers and incentives for N2WS Cloud Protection Manager, which includes full support for AWS Elastic Block Store and EC2, Relational Database Service and RedShift, as well as the RedShift, Aurora and RedShift offerings.
Jason Judge, CEO of N2WS, stated that “joining forces with one the fastest-growing software companies in the world is very exciting for both the N2WS team as well as our customers.” We will continue to accelerate our rapid growth and develop our top-rated solutions using the world-class Veeam team. We look forward to helping Veeam customers with their public cloud strategies, drawing on our years of experience in public cloud storage.
